Interview with Anna Szymanowska: How to keep the doctor away!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a founder of Fighter Shots; natural functional drinks. Originally I am from Poland, and I came to London in 2016 to study MBA at London Business School. Prior to that I worked for Airbus in France and Germany. My background is industrial engineering and renewable energy.
How did you first get into the fitness and wellness field?
While working on a consulting project post MBA, I realised how health and wellbeing are important and that healthy snacks and drinks should be brought to every office. I came across ginger shots during one of my travels and decided to bring them to London, make them even more potent and sustainable.
What is the one thing you wish everybody knew about physical and mental health?
That both physical and mental well-being can be improved by healthy diet, exercise as well as open communication with friends and family. Especially in London, where the weather as well as fast paced environment are not favourable, we should be more mindful that anyone can be affected by physical and mental health issues. Therefore we should take special care of ourselves.
If you could persuade people to change three things about their physical or mental well-being, what would they be?
Get good sleep, reduce salt, sugar and fat intake, exercise.
Do you have a morning routine?
I do, but I am still improving to be more consistent! My mentor and adviser, Lijo Jose, founder of healthy kids snack Chewy Moon, has taught me about the importance of a morning routine, especially when you’re an entrepreneur and can easily get overwhelmed with the daily challenges.
I have never had a morning routine prior to starting my business, but since Lijo and I started working together a few months back, I am now making my bed first thing, I meditate for a few mins, do 10 pushups to get some air into my brain and I also run through my tasks list to make sure I will be sticking to the daily plan.
What daily/weekly practices do you do to look after yourself?
Besides the daily push ups and meditation, I also do yoga or pilates 1-2 a week, I walk as much as I can, and at least for 1h daily. And I make sure I eat fruits and vegetables every day, as well as take omega 3 supplements, that fight depression, anxiety and improve overall health.
What’s one of your favourite food prepping recipes?
I eat a lot of soups; and my favourite are lentil, broccoli creme and beetroot soups.
What is your favourite snack?
Banana and nuts
Do you have any hobbies that you do regularly?
I love swimming and skiing; but they are rather seasonal hobbies.
Are there any podcasts or books about physical or mental well-being that you would recommend my readers to look at?
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It is not directly a mental well-being book, but it does help with setting a direction to our lives. It inspires to think big and achieve big goals by having a desire, faith and being persistent. It gives hope.
I am a big fan of quotes, what is one of your favourite quotes or sayings?
I recently came across a quote by Oscar Wilde:
“Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.”
It resonates with me because it helps me justify the risks of taking on a responsibility such as starting a business.
I love that! Where can our readers find you?
